After a guy with a rifle opened fire in a cafeteria at an Indiana mall Sunday night, an armed bystander fired and killed the assailant, authorities said, leaving three people dead and two more wounded.

According to Greenwood Police Department Chief Jim Ison, the man entered the Greenwood Park Mall brandishing a weapon and numerous magazines of ammo before opening fire in the food court.

Ison claimed during a press conference that the shooter was shot and killed by a 22-year-old from nearby Bartholomew County who was lawfully carrying a gun at the shopping centre.

Ison said that one male and four female victims of gunshots. He wasn’t immediately aware of the precise age or gender of individuals who had died.

He stated that one of the two injured, who are both in stable condition, was a 12-year-old girl.

According to Ison, police seized a suspicious backpack from a restroom next to the food court.

Around 6 o’clock in the evening, police responded to reports of a shooting at the mall.

The person who was lawfully carrying a pistol in that food court and was able to stop the gunman nearly right away is the actual hero of the day, according to Ison.

The recent horrific massacre that alarmed Americans in 2022 was only the last. In recent months, a number of locations—including schools, churches, supermarkets, and a July 4th parade in Highland Park, Illinois—have turned into killing fields. Nevertheless, the reality of America’s alarming murder rate can frequently be seen more clearly in isolated incidents that go unreported more frequently.

The investigation is being supported by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and numerous other organisations.

Chris Bailey, the assistant chief of police in Indianapolis, said, “We are appalled by yet another type of tragedy like this in our nation.”

Authorities reported that there was no threat to the region on Sunday night.

With 60,000 residents, Greenwood is a suburb of Indianapolis on the south. Prayers for the victims and our first responders were requested by Mayor Mark Myers.

In a statement, Myers noted that this tragedy “hits at the very heart of our community.”

Monday, according to the authorities, will bring further information.
